Just some months back, the result of the year 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) was released, and it was seen that there was a poor performance, the worst performance in 3 years.

Parents groups have called for a cancellation of the result while blaming JAMB for extortion and being revenue-focused.

The National President, Association of Formidable Educational Development (AFED) Mr Orji Kanu said that; “One may be forced to believe that JAMB is more focused on revenue drive rather than its primary responsibility of selecting qualified candidates who can fill few spaces available in our institutions.”

He further explained that the examination should not have taken place owing to the huge number of those who are already qualified for the available little spaces existing in universities and that JAMB being privy to this, still went ahead to conduct the exam.

And as expected, a body has to be blamed for the mass failure.

JAMB put the blame on Covid!

It is no news that Covid-19 started last year, 2020, the educational system all around the world was hit badly, but does that justify the mass failure and the poor performance of students?

How has COVID impacted the education system and learning outcomes?

The impact of Covid-19 in the educational system all around the world has been more of a blessing than a curse. Although very few institutions recognise the positive effects of the pandemic, it has helped many education stakeholders to embrace new innovative and effective hybrid ways of learning to improve students’ performance.

Nowadays, a lot of schools are shifting to online learning as a result of the impact of Covid-19, and any school that doesn’t align itself with this new trend would most likely become extinct in a matter of years.

Schools and parents now use Online Learning Applications to boost their students and children’s academic performances.
