Today, we are going to talk about sanitation. In this lesson, you will learn how to:

  • Define sanitation
  • Personal health

We can not talk about sanitation and personal health without discussing the family. A family consists of a group of people that are related by blood or marriage. The health or well-being of every member of the family will make a healthy family and this can only be achieved by keeping the environment clean. This leads us to the definition of sanitation.

Sanitation

I’m sure you have heard the word sanitize. Maybe you have a sanitiser and what does the hand sanitiser do – clean your hands, right? Well, that’s the same idea of sanitation.

Sanitation is defined as the removal of all kinds of dirt from our bodies, homes, and immediate surroundings. Good sanitation can prevent some diseases and infections. Now that we know what sanitation is, let us define personal health.

Personal Health

Personal health, as defined by the World Health Organization, is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.

So as we can see, sanitation and personal health go hand-in-hand. To achieve the physical well-being needs for personal health, you need to prioritize sanitation.

Now, you know that keeping your body clean is essential to sanitation. What part of the home must you keep clean?

You should keep your:

  • Rooms
  • Bathrooms
  • Toilets
  • Kitchens
  • Surroundings clean.
